Reference projects

Rollin‘ in Kentucky

In 2021, an order for two identical rolling mills took EW-Tec to Kentucky, USA. The size of the equipment posed the first challenge: Its main control cabinet measured approx. 16 meters, with six additional decentralized units to be installed on site as well. Downtime had to be kept to an absolute minimum. Plus, everything had to comply with United States‘ UL regulations. EW-Tec took over the planning, construction, and delivery.

Our technicians went to work. In 1,000 hours of engineering and 2,4000 hours of construction, we installed, among other things, two main switches with 1,600 amperes each, 22 transport drives via two separate 400-kW power supply units, and 23 servo adjustment axes for roll positioning. We also managed the fine wire laying application.

EW-Tec completed the project on time in under 10 months, exceeding the customer’s expectations.

Great Optics!

EW-Tec demonstrated an “eye for detail” during a project from Sweden in 2021, when we implemented a special coating plant for optical materials. We broke new ground for the industry with this machinery: it had never been built before in the requested design and execution.

The Lab System measured 25 meters, featured 75 servo axis drives, and had to enable high-precision register control in the μ-range. A modular machine concept, fully automatic assembly of the print units as well as an Industry 4.0 evaluation unit and IoT connectivity were also part of the job order.

EW-Tec led its customer through the conceptual phase and provided active support during implementation. Despite being first of its kind work in the middle of the COVID pandemic, we completed the order within the usual time frame.

Pressing Issues for the Automotive Industry / Leveling up the Automotive Industry

Not just an update, but an upgrade: In 2010, a client from the automotive industry wanted to renew a double-wall press used to laminate a range of different fabric materials.

For us at EW-Tec, this meant one thing: Retro Fit. In order to meet a tight deadline, we conducted comprehensive program tests and simulations in advance, including on the drive components. This way, we managed to reduce downtime to a minimum. We converted the equipment from Siemens S-5 and Masterdrive to Siemens S7-300 and Sinamics. In the process, we developed and integrated a new, safe control concept and replaced more than 20 drives.

Because this part of production had not yet been digitalized, we connected the systems to the company-wide machine and production data acquisition system. The result was a boost in efficiency. Since EW-Tec modernized the line, the client has been running a four-shift operation.

A Fresh Start in Brutal Heat

You could call this project red-hot: In 2017, EW-Tec was contracted for three glass fabric coating lines in Saudi Arabia. The client wanted to scale up operations and also change the production process – without affecting quality.

Required were five-meter coating widths, various Ex zones in the machinery bay, about 75 motors, couplings and gearboxes as well as a flexible higher-level control concept for individual units as well as for the complete system.

Challenges were numerous: Coating width, overall dimensions and installation site, concept and design of the control system, plus local conditions during implementation, approval and go-live. Despite all this, we kept a cool head. EW-Tec successfully adapted the plant concepts and achieved the requested scale-up - without compromising on quality, of course.

German Precision in Chemistry

Among our longest-standing clients is a German manufacturer of industrial cleaning agents. EW-Tec has been realizing various projects for them since 2002.

This order in 2018 revolved around high-precision filling and capping systems serving different container shapes and volumes. Speed and accuracy were key here – batches change quickly, and the nozzles need to be cleaned thoroughly in between to prevent contamination.

EW-Tec successfully integrated linear axes from Festo and Stöger and devised a solution to monitor the caps for proper sealing and tightening torque.
